THE HEART OF THE HOUSE 4
pressurised air balloon
An M+R project. Heart of the House is a large inflated golden balloon trapped within the grand entrance of Compton Verney Art Gallery. This artwork is inspired by an image commissioned for the Pall Mall Magazine in 1894 depicting a future city lit by a series of floating balloons. M+R considered a scenario in which the house has become a living organism with the balloon as the heart. People within the house become components in a multi layered system while the sound of the fan maintaining pressure in the balloon accentuates the effort required to keep the organism alive.
