Light Lines commemorates 300 Barnsley soldiers who fell on the first day of The Battle of The Somme. It is one of the most emotive works made by musson+retallick and has received a deeply personal response from the people of Barnsley. Light Lines connects past and present by rendering archive photographs as laser etched illuminations. The soldiers stand as a symbol of hope exactly 100 years after they fought and 300 cast medals made by local school children represent memories of home. Light Lines will stand outside Barnsley Town Hall for four months; the duration of the battle itself.
