In the national Gallery, London, hangs ‘The Battle of San Romano’ painted by Uccello in 1438. The painting here (detail shown) is a copy but with some significant changes. Instead of troops on horseback, all detail has been removed except the lances, and instead of painted panels, laser cut aluminium reveals thin strips of light. Uccello was using the lances to show off his understanding of perspective and so this recreation pays homage to his pioneering work which was later formalised by Leonardo da Vinci.
